In chapter 5 of Paine’s “Measuring What Matters”, she talks about the importance of monitoring your social media in a timely matter. It’s not just about having social media, it’s about maintaining it and using it to it’s full potential. A company that utilizes social media and maintains it extremely well is the outdoor company, Moosejaw Mountaineering. Paine mentions that social media doesn’t necessarily have a set guideline of rules to follow, and Moosejaw definitely has their own style and way of doing things on social media.  They are constantly responding to consumer tweets in a very timely matter and are always able to catch any problems right away. Moosejaw ran into a bit of trouble a few years ago when they released a controversial catalog that featured their products and models in a jail. Many consumers were very upset about Moosejaw’s lax attitude toward jail and criminals. Moosejaw was able to catch onto these consumer complaints very quickly by constantly monitoring their social media and responded to consumer complaints immediately. Things could have gotten out of control very quickly if Moosejaw didn’t have a handle on their social media platforms. It’s not simply about having a social media presence, it’s about how you use and maintain it that really matters in the long run of things.
